Ruža is a delicious liqueur made of a rare and delicate species of the May rose which grows only 15 days a year. The inspiration for this liqueur is embedded in the very history of the famous Republic of Ragusa that existed for more than 500 years. Rose petal liqueur - or Rozolin, as it was called back then - was used by the Ragusan traders as a means of consolidating the diplomatic relations between the rulers of the Ottoman Empire, the Venetian traders, and other important merchants of the age. It was also given to newly crowned rulers of many countries the Ragusans did business with, as well as to the aristocracy of the Republic of Ragusa. Thus, this elixir was enjoyed only by a sophisticated chosen few.
For this very unique liqueur we use fresh, non-treated May roses, which are grown in family-owned fields. After plucking the petals from the rose blooms, we macerate it in premium alcohol infusion to preserve the fresh flavors of the bloom. The liqueur is then sweetened lightly with natural sugar. The entire manufacturing process - from harvest to the bottling - takes about one year. Unlike mass-produced counterparts, our product is completely free of additives such as artificial flavours, synthetic colours, and preservatives.
Ruža is bottled at 30% alcohol by volume, which is higher than the typical liqueurs available on the market. The combination of a higher proof and less sugar allows for a cleaner, fresher taste, making this liqueur a great cocktail ingredient that can also be enjoyed by itself. It is best served in an old fashioned glass, chilled or on the rocks.
